LYRICS FOR "RUST"

“RUST” written by Duane Carleton 2009

The Moon shines Crayola white

In an inked out indigo night

Like so many other nights of your life

You climb up and tumble back down

Get your chin up, your feet on the ground

‘Cause tomorrow is another day

So go ahead cry if you must

You’re feeling you’re losing your trust

And everything is dying at the speed of rust

You reach out and come up with air

Your looking for love find only stares

And you realize everything’s changed

You got off track lost on the way

The room got bigger, no one else stayed

And there’s still the matter of a bill to be paid

So go ahead cry if you must

You’re feeling you’re losing your trust

And everything is dying at the speed of rust

Can you hold on

Can you go on

Feeling this way

So go ahead try if you must

You’re feeling you’re losing your trust

And everything is dying at the speed of rust

“IN A NOWHERE TOWN” written by Duane Carleton 2009

Time don’t march on it marches over you

You can’t stem the tide

The deeper you have to dig

The less that’s left inside

There’s a sword hanging over our head

The other shoe’s coming down

None of us are going to survive

Living out here…in a nowhere town

My old Massey’s rusting in the backyard

Every day there’s less of my kind

Just like my herd they took away

I’m worth more dead than alive

There’s a sword hanging over our head

The other shoe’s coming down

None of us are going to survive

Living out here… in a nowhere town

Caught between a rock and a wrecking ball

Trying to keep my way of life

How can you say we’re producing too much

When there’s people starving in the world tonight

The summer folks up in Jersey Heights

Look down from the hill

Out across this valley

Like they’re circling in for the kill

There’s a sword hanging over our head

The other shoe’s coming down

None of us are going to survive

Living out here…in a nowhere town

”THIS GHOST TOWN KNOWS MY NAME”

Written by Duane Carleton 2003

Another day another shade of gray

Why did God make February anyway

Half the shops are closed and this town's going down

Soon we'll disappear without  sound

I can't run and I can't hide

I couldn't get out if I tried

The truth is I won't go anyway

Because this ghost town knows my name

Running around through the underground

Chasing all the shadows that come my way

Look for tomorrow I can hear it's sound

It's echoes only help me find today

Riding along on the circus train

Things look different I still feel the same

"YOU CAN'T LOSE WHAT YOU NEVER HAD ANYWAY" written by Duane Carleton 2009

You grew up in this one horse town

But someone put that old nag down

A couple of years before you came about

The movie theater closed it's doors

But there's still six bars and a liquor store

And more than enough suffering to go around

Ashes to ashes it all falls down

When you close your eyes

And daylight fades away

You know you can't lose what you never had anyway

You had a fire in your head

You traded off for a crust of bread

And everyday the embers went out

Your waking hours against the yolk

Then it's forty years later and your still flat broke

Wondering what it's really all about

Ain't no way your ever finding out

Oooh California

Only existed in a dream

Oooh California

You tell yourself it can't be all it seems

“BROKEN” Written by Duane Carleton 2009

You can’t figure what went wrong

Now the days don’t last quite as long

Trying to break the speed of sound

You crashed into the ground

Now you’re broken…broken

Singing into the wall no one’s listening

You never got what you’re missing

Trying to break the speed of sound

You crashed into the ground

Now you’re broken…broken

Time is friends with no one

On your best day

He still won’t let you win

You lose again

Trying to break the speed of sound

You crashed into the ground

Now you’re broken…broken

"Runaway Romeo"

I've been too stoned to get up too drunk to walk away
I've talked to myself  'til there's nothing left to say
Well, I think I've had enough 'cause darling I'm not that rough

So walk a mile in my shoes go where angels fear to tread
Down past the mission where I wept and bled
Lift me up dust me off I'll hold tight and never let you go
I swear I won't be your runaway Romeo

I've been too tired to sleep punch drunk and crazy from the heat
I've been washed up put down left out in the street
Girl you set my soul on fire can't you see the flames getting higher

(chorus)

We've both been hurt before I don't want to hurt anymore

(chorus)

“LEAVING DESPAIR” written by Duane Carleton 2000

Woke up this morning somewhere in space
Wondering how I got to this place
I couldn’t look in the mirror, ‘cause I couldn’t face
The look in the eyes that I’d see there

So come on darling let’s put up a fight
When we look in the rear view we’ll see our taillights
Tiny afterburners on a burned out flight
And we’ll be leaving despair tonight

The street lamps are reaching up for the sky
The hold up is over, there’s no reason why
That we both won’t turn into stars as we drive
And float up from all of our cares

The clock on the wall is flexing its muscles
Racing to get to the end
I wanna get out of this hustle and bustle
And start all over again

From up on the highway you can see your way clear
And every way out away from here
But you’re afraid if you move, you might disappear
Into the thinness of air

"Until You Come Around"

Monday morning stared me down with a look colder than a dead man's smile
So I went back to bed hoping that you'd come around

'Cause your love's like a freight train and my heart is the tracks
I'm underneath your wheels and there ain't no turning back
So I'll keep rolling on until you come around

I don't care if it's cold outside I'll run until you look my way
And if it takes forever and a day I know your love is worth the wait

Every time I see you I still thank my lucky stars and I put 'em in my pocket to save until it's dark
And they'll light my way until you come around

"All I Ever Wanted"

They say you only hurt the one you love
Darlin' I must love you more than anyone
And I love you more, than I did before
All the days before today

I scream when it's quiet and no one hears it but me
I kick at the world and no one feels it but me
I don't wanna feel this way, I don't wanna be this way
All I ever wanted was to be with you

Remember when I'd stay out and I wouldn't call
And all the times I lost my cool over nothing at all
And I'd hang my head, if I thought it would
Do me any good

And I don't know why I keep falling on my face
But while you're falling out of love, I'll keep falling from grace

“PUSHING THE WORLD AWAY” written by DUANE CARLETON 2009

You, you're walking around with your fist
Waving like mad in the air
Wondering why nobody cares

You're pushing the world away
Holding on to yeasterday
You're pushing the world away
But it keeps coming back around

You, you think you can run with your eyes
Glued to the ground 'til you fall
Then you act so surprised

So, you think that the world can be cruel and unkind
And you're gonna beat it at it's own game this time

GOD NEVER NEEDED A GUN

YOU’RE A SUICIDE BOMBER AFRAID TO DIE

YOU GET OTHERS TO DO IT BY TELLING THEM LIES

YOU LIKE TO THINK YOU’RE THE COCK OF THE WALK

YOU SHOOT OFF YOUR MOUTH TO HEAR YOURSELF TALK

YOU SAY GOD IS GREAT AND GOD IS THE ONE

IF YOU TRULY BELIEVED THAT GOD NEVER NEEDED A GUN

YOU HIDE BEHIND YOUR MONEY AND RANK

YOU’RE A POWER DRUNK DRIVER AT THE WHEEL OF A TANK

AND NOTHING’S GONNA GET IN THE WAY OF YOUR DREAMS

NOT THE BLOOD AND DESTRUCTION THE CRYING AND SCREAMS

YOU SAY GOD IS GREAT AND GOD IS THE ONE

IF YOU TRULY BELIEVED THAT YOU’D KNOW GOD NEVER NEEDED A GUN

YOUR WORDS ARE LIKE POISON SPIT INTO THE NIGHT

WITH THE SOUND OF FOUR HORSEMEN IN FLIGHT

TRAMPLING OUT THE AMERICAN DREAM

LEAVING POVERTY DESPAIR FEAR AND DISEASE

THERE’S NOWHERE TO HIDE AND NOWHERE TO RUN

IT’S TIME THAT YOU PAID FOR THE DEEDS THAT YOU’VE DONE

YOU SAY GOD IS GREAT AND GOD IS THE ONE

IF YOU TRULY BELIEVED THAT YOU’D KNOW GOD NEVER NEEDED A GUN   RIFF

THERE’S A FUNERAL MARCH ON BOURBON STREET

YOU LOOK AWAY WON’T ADMIT YOUR DEFEAT

I DON’T BELIEVE THAT YOU’LL SEE THE LIGHT

MAYBE THOSE CHICK DOWN IN DIXIE WERE RIGHT

YOU’RE PUTTING US ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE FENCE

YOU’VE MADE MORE ENEMIES THAN YOU EVER MADE SENSE

YOU DON’T FEEL BAD FOR WHAT YOU’RE PUTTING US THROUGH

‘CAUSE THERE AIN’T ONE BIT OF LOVE IN YOU

YOU SAY GOD IS GREAT AND GOD IS THE ONE

IF YOU TRULY BELIEVED THAT YOU’D KNOW GOD NEVER NEEDED A GUN

THERE’S ISN’T A GOD EVER TOLD YOU TO KILL

AND HE DON’T GET OFF ON THE BLOOD THAT YOU SPILL

VENGEANCE IS HIS AND I HOPE THAT IT’S TRUE

HE’S GOT SPECIAL PLANNED JUST FOR YOU

YOU SAY GOD IS GREAT AND GOD IS THE ONE

IF YOU TRULY BELIEVED THAT YOU’D KNOW GOD NEVER NEEDED A GUN

"Tonight"

I saw you at the breakfast table, just the other day
You asked me if we were able, to carry on this way

Let's keep the world outside tonight, tonight
We'll make the world alright tonight. tonight

Yesterday has come and gone, on vagabond shoes
Out the door with my payment, on the last of our dues

I know we've suffered, just to get by
But this time we'll make it, so just give us one last try
